Exp_2_Week_3_Infographics

App Store Wars infographic
There has a comparison between the Apple store, Android Market, Blackberry App World, and the Nokia, Palm and Windows Phone 7 application directories. The interesting thing is they are using the mobile phone icon to display the smartphone distribution by operating system, easy to comprehend.
An Ode to Horror Cult Classics(1933-2006)
The Halloween Horror Films infographic has a distribution of all kinds of horror movie genres and display them within an eye ball to make it suits its theme.

Exp_2_Week_2_Task_and_Independent_Study

Xml_Recorded_Video

This video shows the flowgraph in action from week 2 task for the experiment 2. From the data and the images it can be seen how the flowgraph capture the distance between the local player and the entity (in this case is the house model) by pressing a button. It stores the data into an xml document, open it, save it, update it.

The techniques this blog displays so far could be integrated into the chosen environment and flow graph system. On one of the videos below, the flow graph has been assigned in a series specified entities, the data is displaying on the screen from an xml document when the local player press a button. This could be applied to display the data updating from the live feed.  The specified entity will be assigned a series of flow graphs to do some movements to display the variation of the data.

Chosen Pachube Feed - Temperature & Light Sensor Feed

This feed collects data from a photo resistor and temperature sensor every second that is then fed from Arduino to processing and relayed to pachube for graphical viewing of real time data.”
“For Responsive Solar Panel Facade -
Temperature - Determines the colour of LED.
Light - Opening/ Closing of panel.
Time - Determines Angle of panel.”

S.W.O.T Analysis

Strengths
Temperature and light data is very common in people’s life, people can obtain the information of every-day temperature from everywhere, and the light can be seen all around us, natural light or artificial light. However, the strength of this feed is the way it display the data they gathered from the sensor through graphics, present it in graphical, innovative way.

Weaknesses
The weakness of this feed is that, the colour of LED may not that accurate, in other words, it may not presenting the true data, or people can get confused if the colour goes too dark or too light, as well as the way it present the light data through opening/closing of panel and the time data through the angle of panel. Moreover, there is a primary weakness is that this feed is frozen already.

Opportunities
This feed actually could have many opportunities through the Crysis environment. It is very interesting to see a series of data to be presented in graphical way, consequently this feed can be integrated into different installations. For instance, the panel could represent other data or some kind of signal for noticing the soldier, the colour could represent the order of severity, patient acuity, distress severity or severity of exposure in the battle field, warfare or some high-class secret missions.

Threats
A model and a series of flowgraphs are needed in the installation if I want to present the chosen feed as what the way it expected. The temperature is difficult to be presented in colour because of the time of day could make the colour darker or lighter.

Independent Study

With help from Vinh, i finally worked out the flowgraph measures and displays the average valocity over a period of time.

Assignment_1 Marking schedules

Week 6 Exp1 Final submission

The live feed that I chose was the radiation variation data from Japan. The idea was to link the concept of Pure War with the variation of the radiation and how people fix the radiation problem. The concept of the installation was that the environment was becoming worse and worse due to the nuclear crisis in Japan and the people in there are still trying to fix it.

The lower part of the design is trying to present a distorted environment to reflect how important the radiation problem is by using a few glows and flowgraphs. At the middle part of the model is showing you the people are trying to fix the radiation, fight for the environment. The main concept of the model is to create a closed space to let you have a sense of feeling you are surrounded or something is pressing you just like the radiation in the real-time environment. Using the triangular shape structure to surround the room, and the moving bargraph is showing the radiation variations. The last part is a stair leads to the upper floor, it means the war isn’t finished yet, still have a long way to go.

The texture that I chose is for incorporating the current context, the model is inspired by the Colosseum, the entrance and the exits are curved stairs to represent a constant cycle to reflect the notion of the Pure War – the war will never stop.

I tried to clean the user interface by following the tutorial on the blog, but failed, don't know why, it just doesn't work.

The flowgraphs were developed around the ideas of showing the variation of the radiation in the real time environment. The live feed from Pachube is reflected into the this installation, the elements glow, objects moving and changing opacity are representing the influence of the radiation, for instance, the moving lights, circular object along the stairs, the radiation spots - the triangular structures.

Week 5 Documentary trial version

Week 5 The modes to create the machinima documentary

The modes that I am going to use for the machinima are capture several views of the structure from different angles and use first person mode to walkthrough the model to show what happen inside the structure. In this machinima documentary, the camera view will constantly switching between first person and third person, this will give people a distinct feeling and also very helpful for showing what the model looks like.
By using these modes, the video is more like a short film, provides a brand new visual effect that attracts people.
